“Sen5es has given me the opportunity to open for DJ’s and producers that I look up to, and for that I am grateful. I always try to show my support, and promote a smokefree environment everywhere I go by wearing a Sen5es shirt or even a bracelet to my gigs.”
- Kid Funk
For all of you who frequent Artisan after hours, DJ Kid Funk isn’t a new name to you. Funk is an Artisan regular on Saturday nights as well as Thursday nights over at Vanguard Lounge on Fremont. If you go out in Vegas, you’re familiar with his work.
Javier Rios (Kid Funk) has been at it since 2004 and has made a name for himself with live mash ups and a cappellas as well as some creative edits. Funk isn’t currently signed to a label but is working towards potential future releases with Subliminal, Defected and Toolroom Records. By this summer, Funk plans on releasing his first original track, which he hints could very well be “a house track with a funky twist…but who knows. Wherever my inspiration takes me.”
Funk lives a healthy lifestyle and has disliked smoking since he was a kid. As a youngster, he and his sisters used to draw “no smoking” signs with crayons to try to get their parents to quit. Unfortunately, it didn’t work but Funk still finds the habit annoying.
“I can’t stand the smell nor getting home from a gig smelling like cigarette,” says Kid Funk.
